The KING and PROUD Roadhouse is a moderately priced grill and sports bar offering a menu of “Feel Good Food," grilled selections of half pound burgers, chicken tenders, and pork tenderloins are served, as well as several deep fried selections including mushrooms, cheese sticks, onion rings, etc. Our smoked meats have become a popular choice. We like to offer different menu option periodically, which will not be on the regular menu. A variety of adult beverages are also available. Dave likes to offer choices. Ask him for any special requests. He may just have it for you the next time you come in. We also offer a few wines for the wine lovers.
The "ONE-OF-A-KIND" Sports Theater ia one of the special fetures of what is offered in the Family Oriented facility. If you have a private event The Roadhouse offers a private rental room as well as catering.
The managing members, David and Enola Kerns, have a family connection to the community that goes back many years. Enola is the niece of the late Ray and Fern Noland. Both Dave and Enola have strong “small town” values that translate into the personality of this establishment.
The KING and PROUD Roadhouse is located at 137 and 141 West Nodaway, Oregon, MO 64473. The facility is a pre-existing, free-standing building built in 1890. It consists of two attached spaces. Due to the historical nature of the building, the owners capitalized on the history of the building. For starters, the name of the business is derived from the names over one portion of the building.
Dave and Enola (MomMa) are on the job daily to watch and account for all aspects of the operation.
The building offers several possibilities for future ideas to be added to the facility. Ideas include the renovation of the upper floor to accommodate guests of the community and hunters for short stays, much like a small Hotel. There is potential for 3-5 rooms. Part of the lower level was once a barber shop with an entrance via stairs from the front street side of the building. This space offers possibilities for a variety of unique ideas to explore in the future.
Our goal for The KING and PROUD Roadhouse and the building is to become a “Destination” for those who visit, not just another grill and bar. Pride in service by the owners ensure the customers have a pleasant experience with every visit.
HISTORY OF THE BUILDING
Dr. Willard C. Proud was born in Oregon on June 28, 1873. His parents were Clark O. Proud of Ohio and Rebecca (Curtis) Proud, of Missouri. Clark left the Buckeye state in company with his parents and made his way to Oregon, Missouri, where he and his uncle, Rueben King, established a pharmacy, conducting business under the name of the King & Proud Pharmacy. This relationship was maintained for 32 years, Clark O. Proud being long numbered among the leading merchants of the state.
Since the close of the pharmacy, the building has served many different purposes, the most recent being The King & Proud Roadhouse.
